Lo, How a Spring ere Blooming

Lenny goes on about
“the fourth, the fifth,
the minor fall, the major lift”

And then sings Hallelujah.

So here’s the fourth false splish
fourth false splash this year
before the snows begin again.

No Hallelujah here.

I can but dream
there is no fifth false lift ahead
amid this slushy rain

That augurs ague in my brain.

A(d) verse complaint

Not again, briefly

Let me get this straight:

Two days ago,
white-out winds and snow
left waist-deep white
on the way to the road.

Today, slush
trickles into
splashy puddles
reflecting gray.

So it’s a tug of war:
Spring vs Winter —
is soft melt gray
besting icy white today?

Never-Spring

Third, this promise
to rescind the winds
and repeal the snow.

Third chance to
greet the red-breast
soon to be shivering
on his frigid twig.

Third false harbinger
to cry
O no
as winter winds
begin again to blow.
