hiatus

little brothers
sleeping twisted
in blankets and sheets
like free-falling
stars and tentacles
still as a portrait
gentle as a cyclone
ready as a nail
metaphor for tomorrow
in our silent
pre-dawn house

(Lone) bird on air (conditioner)

Bird on air con
      -ditioner
d’ya think it’s ma
      -ma’s war
      -m heart
murmuring love?

Peek not into
her bosom:
she will man
      -gle stran
      -gle with her fan
blades.

Oh coo
      -l down
      -y bird
      -y coo
      -ked as goo
      -se is.

chocolate

After the slender honeymoon
glazed by the high tiny moon
overlooking the lazy blue
Caribbean tides she flew back
to the clacking bottling plant
opened a new box of cherry creams
and got sticky dreamy again.
