The kid was dancing
along the juices aisle
ahead of his mother’s
almost-full shopping cart
he deaked left, his short
blond hair just visible
over a small display
of canned soup
his mother redirected
him and he danced
toward her and under
her arms to the other side
he was smiling
she was almost smiling
I was smiling
and he was still a kid
