the guy beside me
reeks of tobacco
wonder if I am
inhaling nicotine
we sit in a doctor’s
waiting room
I wonder what
is waiting for him.

concise poignant and effective. I was there with you. i find the last line funny, but with another emotion attached.. deeper
When I am faced with a wait in a doctor’s office. I usually take along a pad so I can write. This was one of those times.
I couldn’t believe how strong the tobacco smell was on the guy. Not a smoke smell, but tobacco smell. We were rubbing elbows as I wrote it. I was wondering if he could see what I was writing. You are right about the last line; glad you got it.
