The Silence of the Lotus Eaters

Barricade yourselves within the music
that blossoms in your ears like heroin dreams.
Nurture the stone silence that extends
around you
penetrated only by the muted steely hissing
escaping like steam from an ancient steel piston.

Garrison yourselves inside your shiny road machines
that pound the hobbled streets with rhythmic bass.
avoid the strident rhetoric of crows
that only argue over bleeding eyes of roadkill.

Outside your sacred veils of sound
another nature sings and always has.
It lives in water, earth and sky
and chants bliss that needs no electricity.
