Vagabond Theatre’s Halloween Show

This was a lot of fun. I am not reviewing it because I was one of the assistant directors. Let’s just say it was fun.

The show, presented at Ste. Croix Elementary School Gymatorium October 26, 27 at 8 pm, featured work by local writers Carol Weekes and Scott Beaudoin, with story telling and readings by cast members. Adam Youmelle was MC. Katie Burke was Director, assisted by Bill Roddy and me. Dan Youmelle was Technical Director. The photos are in my Picasa Album at Halloween Show Photos
Here is the slide show of the album.

witch

the kid in the front row
of the dim gymnatorium
had dark blue eyes
that gradually widened
along with his mouth
as the actress cackled joyously
over her imaginary cauldron

he could not see
that she was too beautiful
for the ugliness she portrayed
he saw only the beauty
of the aweful horror
her words and gestures
brought to life in him

In the dim cave before him
slime drooled down the rocks
red flames flickered unnaturally
in the evil hollows of her eyes
she was the embodiment
of every suspicion
lurking in night’s shadows
threat in darkening woods
evil in a fireside’s imagination

darkening

Each year I wonder if the sun will leave
and take it all

the skies the light the kiss of summer
and leave us just the dark old moon
and winds howling at the empty sky

Each fall I wonder if the leaves will leave
and trees will die

the earth blacker than inside itself
and leave eyes useless as cold stone
and tears futile as hail before the wind

Each day I wonder if the air will leave
and lungs wither

the gulping throats coughing feathers
and paper lungs sucking empty
and blood dusty as clouds on the desert

Each minute I wonder if gravity will leave
and the universe will float up laughing
into the giggling baby stars
