Each day our dressers
give us finery
this scalloped shirt
that silken fine brocade
and if the collar chokes
we’re never whinery
they smile, the fashion’s so
or so they say
the talking heads on TV
set the focus
they choose the mot du jour
that we all know
we all believe in
every hocus pocus
and focus on the
focus every show
a little storm to stir
milady’s bouffant
a sudden flood
a hurricane for sleeves
and if they call your loan
before you’re solvent
just smile and say the
others are in need
the stories in the
morning shows are endless
we listen and react
to every one
it’s gotten so
we think it will defend us
from having independent
thought for once
