The logs creak at night
whether wind or cold or heat or
scaling invaders
we cannot tell
a wolf moons in the distance
he worships at night
and sometimes
I fall to my knees on the cold floor
clasp my hands on the
thought that I might die
and I too worship the moon
any god that will bring me through
to another day

If you click on the title of a post, you will be taken to the archive copy of the text, where there are many options:
"Print this post" -- creates a printable screen
"Add to Favourites" -- See below
"Related Posts" -- other posts that are in some way similar
"(Visited N times)" -- Started Jan 5, 2010If you click "Add to Favourites", the software sets a cookie on your device. This cookie is quite harmless; however, it saves a list of your favourite posts on this site. Up to 99 of your favourites will appear on your computer only, in the list to the right, on the device that has the cookie. Note that favourites saved on one device will not be favourites on others, and that clearing your cookies will clear that particular device's list.
I am not sure about this, but the favourites list should work, even if you are not a subscriber. I know that it does work for subscribers.
The flow
The poem is extremely powerful, evoking elemental fears, though living through the night isn’t one of them, for me. There’s the remoteness of a dwelling, the ominousness of scaling invaders and the wolf, the awfulness of not knowing what’s outside, making sounds in the dark.
So much for my visceral response. This is a fine poem, very skillfully written, the most engaging I’ve read anywhere lately, really.
Thank you, Danae. This part of two series of poems: it is the first of the garrison series, and the Garrison series is part of the Lotus Eaters serial. You can see the whole thing by clicking on “serial” in the “Categories” column at the right. I believe these two poems will show up when you click on “fear” in the tag cloud at the bottom of the left column. The tags are not as consistent as the categories, because I have to remember what the tags are when I use them; whereas the categories are available in a list for me.
