I offered to cook the haddock,
But they turned me down;
I would’ve washed the fillet,
Dusted it in flour with salt and pepper and thyme
And fried it until golden in
A dash of canola and butter;
But they said, no, I should let them.
I offered to do the potatoes,
But they turned me down;
I would’ve washed and peeled
The potatoes, then grated them into
Water and oil, salt and pepper in a frying pan
And cooked them until the water boiled off
And they started to be golden;
But they said no, I should let them.
I offered to sit in the porch and write a poem
And take words and jiggle them around
Until it was golden :
They accepted, and I did.
