There is a pulse that runs

\nthrough eyes and skies

\nwhether crows gather overhead
\nto pluck out eyes
\nor just to turn the pages

One day we sing and smile
\nthe next gasp as the earth
\ncollapses beneath us
\nor a flood sweeps all
\ntoward the pit
\nexcept the crows
\ncalling instructions overhead
\nmoves of the chess pieces
\nin the great throbbing game<\/p>\n
The piston of the world
\nshoves in pulls out
\ndragging its orbit
\ncloser to the inevitable
\nconflagration<\/p>\n
if we can
\nwe shall spin off
\nin time
\nand leave those
\nbirds
\nto play above
\nthe pulsing sun<\/p>\n
