The cracking paint gives way in patterned flakes
\nrevealing dark bones of this weathered porch.
\nThe last coat I laid on I hoped would last,
\nbut again undress it with a blade and torch.<\/p>\n
The naked wood has beauty but nude flesh
\ncan never stay or snarling wolves will come
\nand snap and gnaw until all flesh gives way
\nand keen regret leaves beauty still and numb.<\/p>\n
My bones grow tired as scraping takes its toll
\nand fingers cramp and knees on floor rebel;
\nand even though this peeling has its charms
\nmy arms and joints will make me rest a spell.<\/p>\n
This time I hope the perfect paint remains
\nfor I have had enough of chipping’s pains.<\/p>\n
