My memories of the party are visual:
\nphotos, faces, continuous white noise video
\nsmiling eyes, gesturing fingers, hands,
\nnose-to-nose discussions, sipping ideas
\nin the dim bar, children in a booth
\nfriends, relatives, companions gathered
\nto celebrate life\u2014it plays like a silent movie
\nwith an underwater sound-track as words
\nblur into eachotherlikeporridgeheating<\/p>\n
I hear everything blending into nothing
\nviewed through a glass that makes me
\nspectator viewing a newborn from a hall:
\nso much potential, so little comprehension;
\njoy seen, not heard; convictions shaken,
\nnot stirred; unheard song of an unseen bird.<\/p>\n
But after, in the retelling, I hear all
\nin the clarion purity of accoustic halls;
\ntrumpets state the obvious: simple, true;
\nand I listen eagerly to the party part two.<\/p>\n
