No hydro line went into the old farmhouse
\na sister and two brothers lived alone
\nthey farmed by horsepower and they never painted
\nthe hard frame house the colour of dried bones.<\/p>\n
Year by year they farmed into their nineties
\nand stories grew about how they were tight
\na visitor who came to gather silence
\ncould wait all day and even into night.<\/p>\n
The old windmill they used to pump their water
\nthe wagon that they hauled to gather hay
\nthe windows in the night so dark and silent
\nand all the strange things people wont to say<\/p>\n
had no effect on them they went to bed
\nand godless lived ’til they were doubtless dead.<\/p>\n
