{"id":897,"date":"2008-04-25T12:09:44","date_gmt":"2008-04-25T16:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/?p=897"},"modified":"2008-04-25T16:25:48","modified_gmt":"2008-04-25T20:25:48","slug":"auto-car-wash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2008\/04\/25\/auto-car-wash\/","title":{"rendered":"Auto Car Wash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1943<br \/>\nwhen I was a kid of exactly six<br \/>\nmy aunts took my sister and me and<br \/>\nmy silly-because-I&#8217;m-on-a-holiday<br \/>\nmother to the amusement park<br \/>\nat Ocean City New Jersey USA.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever we did<br \/>\ncotton candy and salt water toffee<br \/>\nand a lot of walking and watching<br \/>\nI do remember the house of mirrors<br \/>\nand the clanking rippling tunnel of love<br \/>\nwhich was tame enough for us.<\/p>\n<p>I remember that clicking clanking<br \/>\nas the chains or whatever pulled us<br \/>\nalong the dark ominous water way<br \/>\na judicious distance from the other<br \/>\npassenger carrying swans. I wondered<br \/>\nif they were the birds that brought babies<br \/>\nbut my aunts told me storks were different.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the wife and I<br \/>\ntook the car over to the auto<br \/>\ncar wash and I was reminded<br \/>\nby the clicking clanking track<br \/>\nthat hauled us into the maze of<br \/>\nspinning spraying monster brushes<br \/>\nof the tunnel of love and how scared<br \/>\nour little guy was when we used to<br \/>\ntake him with us through the auto car wash<br \/>\nand now, come to think of it<br \/>\nthere was a certain aggressive<br \/>\nclaustrophobia about being closed in<br \/>\nand assaulted by giant monster brushes<br \/>\nvomiting porridge all over the car.<\/p>\n<p>Even though I was with my sweetie<br \/>\nthat was no tunnel of love.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 1943 when I was a kid of exactly six my aunts took my sister and me and my silly-because-I&#8217;m-on-a-holiday mother to the amusement park at Ocean City New Jersey USA.
