In Firenze, we stayed
\nin wonderful upstairs
\nsun-washed rooms
\nwith a marble bathroom
\nnot the kind that is glued
\non wood over drywall
\nbut the kind that was built one
\nfitted stone at a time on
\nthe limestone base of the city
\na quarter millennium ago.
\nAcross the piazza
\napartments are fitted
\ncasually into the remains
\nof the Roman aquaduct.<\/p>\n
Our home here in Canada
\nis almost as old
\nas I am: depression era
\nit is three-score
\nand ten this year
\nand the rooms
\nof our two storey house
\nare painted plaster
\nwith a masonry bathroom
\nnot the kind that is glued
\non wood over drywall
\nbut the kind that reflects
\nlittle earthquakes
\nwith little showers of plaster
\nthat have required
\nthe installation of a
\nwhite wondrous tin ceiling
\nan art deco impression
\nwhich we can enjoy
\nwhile soaking in the tub
\nor in other moments of
\ncontemplation that lead to the
\nconsideration the we live in a
\nfrontier society of facades
\nthat will succumb
\nto the return of wildflowers
