She poses on the couch
\nour old cat, Circe, reading
\nour emotions as she sits.<\/p>\n
She waits for sun to shift
\naround the heavens
\nand bring the warmth
\nto her arthritic hip.<\/p>\n
At noon she likes to
\nwalk around the garden
\nand start the gossip
\nrunning through the birds.<\/p>\n
All afternoon she likes to
\nsleep in closets
\nand leave a patch of gray
\ntoo soft for words.<\/p>\n
Her evening she spends
\nin sweet contentment
\npurring underneath
\nmy fingertips.<\/p>\n
At night I go to bed
\nshe’s right there purring
\nand singing me to
\ndreams of longed-for trips.<\/p>\n
If it’s my lot to
\ncirculate in heaven
\nafter I have left
\nthis mortal track<\/p>\n
I know I could do
\nworse than have
