In ancient caves eons past
\nthe hunt was crayoned onto walls
\nin elegant soft coloured stone on stone
\nthe glorious drama of their lives<\/p>\n
In ancient pyramids millennia past
\nkings and pharaohs lay entombed as gods
\nthe epic stories of their lives carved
\ninto stone walls illumed in gold<\/p>\n
In ancient cathedrals and mosques centuries past
\nthe lives of saints depicted in statues or words
\nhaunted guilt and drove civilizations
\nto mythic hopes illumed on vellum<\/p>\n
Straight up almost to the clouds a century ago
\ncommerce strove to supersede hope with cash
\nand drive industry and economics
\ninto laws debated in courts and flayed on the backs of the poor<\/p>\n
More recently sports palaces have mushroomed
\ninto circuses and dominated sense each
\nstereotypically more garish than the last
\nsplashed onto paper and the media every hour<\/p>\n
Soon caves will be in vogue
\nand all will fall into a tepid swamp
\nas insects start to etch the hunt
