on Fridays

\nRose and Dennis and Flora and I
\nwould drive down Palmerston Ave
\nto Toto’s Pizzeria
\non Queen Street
\nrun into the beer store
\ndrive back
\nwolf down everything
\nand fall asleep
\nin front of the little
\ngray and white
\nTV test pattern
\nand Rose or Flora would
\nwake us up before dawn
\nso Dennis or I would
\ndrive the girls home
\nbecause
\ntheir mothers would die
\nor kill them
\nif they stayed all night.<\/p>\n
Last night
\nI wolfed my way through
\ntwo and a half slices
\nof medium-all-dressed-thin-crust
\nfrom Jenna’s on the corner
\nthey know me there
\nand I get a discount for
\nwalking over to pick it up
\nFlora and I don’t have to say no anchovies
\nand we don’t fall asleep right after
\nand I don’t have to drive Flora home
\nbefore dawn
\npartly because her mother
\nhasn’t sent any lightning bolts
\nfrom her retirement home in the sky
\nand partly because
\nsleeping over is pleasantly legal
\nfor couples who have been
