{"id":78,"date":"2006-03-25T22:18:19","date_gmt":"2006-03-26T03:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/?p=78"},"modified":"2006-03-27T20:47:25","modified_gmt":"2006-03-28T01:47:25","slug":"takoniweha-stops-by-a-tree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2006\/03\/25\/takoniweha-stops-by-a-tree\/","title":{"rendered":"Takoniweha stops by a tree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And in his terror<br \/>\nTakoniweha fled<br \/>\nup the path towards<br \/>\nthe place they said never to go<br \/>\nand he stumbled on a root and fell<!--more--><br \/>\nscratching the whole side<br \/>\nof his leg and his arm<br \/>\non the rough bark of a young oak tree<br \/>\nhe stopped<br \/>\nhe rubbed his elbow<br \/>\nwhich had taken most of the strike<br \/>\nand heard nothing but<br \/>\nthe pounding in his ears<br \/>\nhe knew it was too loud:<br \/>\nagain the wars would begin<br \/>\nit would be his fault this time<br \/>\nhe should have listened<br \/>\nit would be his sin this time<br \/>\nhe had to calm down<br \/>\nand listen<br \/>\nhe moved around the tree<br \/>\nout of the view from the path<br \/>\njust in case<\/p>\n<p>The pounding of his heart<br \/>\nechoed in the thoughts<br \/>\nof the trees around him<br \/>\nthey were awakening to his fear<br \/>\nthey felt his angst<br \/>\nthey obeyed their nature:<br \/>\nwith their characteristic generosity<br \/>\nthey gave it back to him;<br \/>\nover him flooded the fear<br \/>\nit surged out of the hearts<br \/>\nof the pine, the maple, the elm<br \/>\nfrom their roots the trees<br \/>\ngave him what he gave them<br \/>\nas they had always done<br \/>\nand they began to broadcast it out<br \/>\nto the people:<br \/>\nabsolute terror<\/p>\n<p>Across the continent<br \/>\nat that very moment<br \/>\nin a very ancient grove<br \/>\nof giant fir trees<br \/>\nKehanenawa sat<br \/>\nweaving a basket<br \/>\nfrom the bark of a fragrant<br \/>\nbasswood tree<br \/>\nShe was happy, and sang<br \/>\nthe song of peace<br \/>\nwhich was enchanted<br \/>\nby all the soft-winged creatures<br \/>\nwho inhabited the same grove<br \/>\nnever before had a being<br \/>\nprojected such peace and contentment<br \/>\nthis song blossomed and echoed<br \/>\nthrough the forest grove<br \/>\nand was magnified<br \/>\nby these trees<br \/>\nthrough other trees<br \/>\nUntil it spread its joy<br \/>\nacross the peaceful land<br \/>\nand even into the heart of<br \/>\nTakoniweha\u2019s darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Takoniweha felt the<br \/>\nsweet peace of the distant trees<br \/>\nas men sometimes do<br \/>\nnow his heart could withstand<br \/>\nthe catastrophic assault<br \/>\nand he finally understood<br \/>\nthat the trees had<br \/>\nfulfilled their destiny<br \/>\nfinally they had communicated<br \/>\nwith a being who understood<br \/>\ntrees do not cause despair and death:<br \/>\nthey magnify and communicate<br \/>\nthe death that is given to them.<\/p>\n<p>And he sent his own sudden peace<br \/>\nback across the land<br \/>\nAnd there was no longer fear or war<br \/>\nand this lasted for ten thousand years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And in his terror Takoniweha fled up the path towards the place they said never to go and he stumbled on a root and fell<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-78","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-creative-writing","category-poetry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/78","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=78"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/78\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=78"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=78"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=78"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
