My good friend stood in the front hall
\nin hat, coat, snow boots explaining
\nthe map of his basement and what to do if\u2014
\nwhen they arrived through the back door
\ngiggling and laden with grocery bags.<\/p>\n
The line of his lips twisted ever so\u2014
\nthe pace of his explanation heightened\u2014
\nhis glance met hers\u2014
\nthe bags in her arms stopped\u2014
\nhe stopped, went.<\/p>\n
She unpacked three loaves of bread
\nthe coriander, tomatoes, celery,
\nfour cans of assorted vegetables,
\nspinach, soy beverage, the prepared
\nchicken broth, chick peas, olive oil,
\npasta, as my son shelved them.<\/p>\n
My friend’s son stands
\na little translucent,
\na little above the snow
\nsees his father leave
\nsees his ex-friend
\nand his ex-life unpack groceries
\nbefore he turns away and attends to
