Snowflakes detached themselves
\nfrom the heavens
\npixels in their multitudes
\nswarmed to earth
\nborn on the wind
\neach insignificant
\nbut together a force
\nto stall the countryside
\nmute the crackling
\nstaccato of machines
\nand lock life in its cold
\nsilent hug<\/p>\n
The old man decided
\nto shovel his driveway and the walks
\nafter breakfast
\nafter lunch
\nafter supper
\nand each time
\nthe snow lay waiting
\nhowling drifting
\npant cuff deep
\nover the boot tops
\nalmost to the knees<\/p>\n
When he staggered in

\nhis joints a little more warped

\nsnow caked his parka a little more
