a ship is sinking slowly
\nin the cold Antartic waters
\nall the passengers are leaving
\nand the rescuers are eager
\nto behold them drinking cocoa
\nthat can warm their little fingers
\nas the ship that ice has ruptured
\nsettles down<\/p>\n
well my driveway isn’t needing
\nany heroes to the rescue
\nbut the ice-packs came and settled
\nin hard rows along the bottom
\nwhere the snowplow passed and dropped them
\njust before the air grew cold enough
\nto freeze the slushy snow cakes
\nin our town<\/p>\n
and I know if I don’t scoop it
\ndrag it off to the side immediately
\nthe gelling slush and snow chunks
\nthat the plowman left there for me
\nwill become a wall that blocks me
\nas drive out in the morning
\nand I won’t be able to pass it
\nwithout tearing off my muffler
