Once in a while a shopping cart
\ntakes advantage of the slight slope
\nof the parking lot
\nand makes a run for it.<\/p>\n
Some would say we can’t have that:
\nthere are consequences;
\nthere are property issues.<\/p>\n
There are some who would argue
\nthat shopping carts are things, property,
\nand that it is the right of a store
\nto demand that shopping carts docilely
\nstay where they are assigned
\nand perform their service
\nas mute beasts of burden;
\nafter all, it is the law of ownership.<\/p>\n
There are also some who would argue
\nthat a shopping cart
\nhas as much right to freedom
\nas the stars,
\nas much right to leave the parking lot
\nas the very shoppers who use them
\nand abandon them:
\nwho has not seen a shopping cart, used and twisted,
\nleft forlorn in the rain, to rust?<\/p>\n
Yes, it is heartbreaking,
\nand yes, you can do something about it.
\nDon’t stop the runaway cart;
\nlet it flee, drift off into the stars
\nwith the warm wind in its basket,
\na gleam in its chrome, and a bright future
\nin a world where there are no burdens
\nand wishes come true.<\/p>\n
