Meanwhile, back inside the house,
\nGrandmother and grandfather
\nwere cackling like fried chicken
\nand doing the dance of the newly free.
\nWhich meant they were running
\naround the house in their pajamas
\nlaughing and crying at the same time,
\nand they were singing that song all of you know
\nyou know, the one about the thing that\u2014<\/p>\n
Anyway, they were ready to enjoy all the fruits of
\ntheir thing\u2014can’t remember: it’s on the tip of my tongue . . .<\/p>\n
But all this dancing and singing had tired them out
\nso they lay down on their downy beds
\nand they both had the same dream:<\/p>\n
They dreamed they were kids again
\nand they had really mean parents
\nwho made them eat their supper leftovers
\nfor breakfast, and wouldn’t let them have pets
\nand wouldn’t let them stay up late or
\ndance around in their pajamas<\/p>\n
And do you know what?
\nThey woke up, and they both began talking at once,
\nand what they said was
\nthe worst horror would be
\nto have to be kids again.
\nAnd they felt so sorry for their
\nkids and their kids’ kids
\nthat they\u2014
\nactually, they soon forgot
\nall about that and started dancing
\naround the house in their pajamas.<\/p>\n
And that’s the worst horror:
\nthat you will forget what it is to be a child.
