Once upon a time, in a far away land
\nthere lived a couple who decided to retire
\nand enjoy the fruits of their labours.<\/p>\n
So they called together their children
\nand associated grandchildren and all
\ntheir dogs and cats and they said to them:<\/p>\n
We have decided to take it easy,
\nso it’s time for you to go.
\nTo make it easy for you, we have decided
\nto give each of your your favourite things
\nto take away with you.<\/p>\n
So one by one they called
\neach of their children and associated
\nspouse and children and dogs and cats
\n(and in one case a goldfish
\nwho wasn’t very talkative)
\nand they said, first to Samuel, the eldest:
\nSammy, it’s time for you and Irma and
\nthe kids and your dog and cat to leave;
\nMammy and I are giving you a
\npound of carrots and a pound of fudge gift wrapped\u201d
\nand they gave them the boot and good luck!
\nand they said to Lemuel:
\nLemmy, it’s time for you and Cassandra to leave;
\nMother and I are giving you the
\nModel T and a pound of fudge gift wrapped\u201d
\nand they gave them the boot and good luck!
\nand they said to Gwendolyn:
\nGwinnie, it’s time for you and Calvin and
\nthe triplets and the dogs and the gold fish to leave;
\nMom and I are giving you the
\nrecipe book and a pound of fudge gift wrapped\u201d
\nand they gave them the boot and good luck!
\nand they said to Haliburton:
\nBert, it’s time for you and Ziggy and the cats to leave;
\nMummy and I are giving you a
\ncertificate for lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studios
\nand a pound of no-sugar fudge gift wrapped\u201d
\nand they gave them the boot and good luck!<\/p>\n
The kids stood outside the house on the sidewalk
\nrubbing their bums and somewhat disconsolate
\nbecause they did not know what to do.<\/p>\n
