{"id":643,"date":"2007-09-11T06:52:08","date_gmt":"2007-09-11T11:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2007\/09\/11\/elephant-waltz\/"},"modified":"2009-02-16T22:29:33","modified_gmt":"2009-02-17T02:29:33","slug":"elephant-waltz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2007\/09\/11\/elephant-waltz\/","title":{"rendered":"elephant waltz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trumpet sounds across the jungle<br \/>\nwith its own familiar rhythms<br \/>\nand the drums are beating harder<br \/>\nas they hype the coming values<br \/>\nand the men are looking sideways<br \/>\nat the women getting horny<br \/>\nat the thought of all the action<br \/>\nin the aisles of all the hallowed space<br \/>\nthey&#8217;re hyping in the corridors<br \/>\nthey placed along the rivers in the mall<\/p>\n<p>Leave the caves and join the chorus<br \/>\nthat is chanting in the belfry of the<br \/>\nplace of worship gleaming with the<br \/>\nchromium of values on the altars<br \/>\nof the holocaust we offer to the pantheon<br \/>\nof circuses and values in the mall<\/p>\n<p>O the giant cube is waiting as the<br \/>\ntyphoon circles closer like a value-rated<br \/>\npurchase in the sanctum of sanctorums<br \/>\nand the call to prayer is answered by the<br \/>\nswooning of the masses as they circle<br \/>\npandemonium declaring for the values in the mall<\/p>\n<p>O the elephants are dying in the<br \/>\nforests of the jungle and we<br \/>\ncannot ever find them for they<br \/>\nleave this place forever taking<br \/>\ngolden fleece and ivory and<br \/>\nspices from nativity to open spaces waiting<br \/>\nin the vaults of someone\u2019s memory<br \/>\nand they will not forget it<br \/>\n\u2019til they\u2019re gone . . . .<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Below is a link to an MP3 of my reading of this poem.
