In autumn we return to level floors:
\nno longer barefoot,\u00a0 drinking air with skin,
\nwe leave behind the slamming door
\nthat keeps mosquitoes out, cats in.<\/p>\n
Within these walls so warm and so secure
\nwe wait out winter’s storms and neighbours’ trips;
\nhere toilets flush and taps give water pure,
\nand out front we see cars instead of ships.<\/p>\n
The simple construct that our cottage is
\nwe tend to take for granted every summer
\nwith floors that wander like a gravity quiz
\nwe still return for reasons without number:<\/p>\n
the sweet familiarity that it brings
