Some servant of the Medici
\nran down this narrow street
\ninto this same stony silence:
\nour sandals slap the cobbles,
\necho off these ochre walls as
\neasy rhythms of another time.<\/p>\n
In shade, these cool stones
\nstill keep the morning’s touch;
\nin sun, they blaze with searing
\norange lust, driving lovers inside,
\nothers into sweet holy shade
\ninside tall echoing frescoed walls.<\/p>\n
A young woman walks ahead
\nhair bobbing, small purse swinging
\nbeside her hip, muscles carrying her
\neasily along the narrow marble walk,
\nsilent, a meditation available anywhere,
\nbut here, a sweet musical song
