Becoming a passenger
\non a trip that I usually drive
\nopens my eyes to the sides:
\nI see not as driver,
\nfocused ahead and behind
\nseldom to sides,
\nbut as rider.<\/p>\n
And there on the sides
\nfor the rider to see
\nare horses grazing
\nand brilliant green alfalfa
\nsprouting like flames
\nand signs I never see, advertising
\nanything you could want.<\/p>\n
Now I want not
\nto drive,
\nbut to be a passenger,
\neyes open
\nlooking to the sides
\nwhere there is life.
\nNot straight ahead and behind
\nwhere there is machine after machine.<\/p>\n
