Cat was always my “C” letter:

but like a cat

\nsometimes hard,
\nsometimes soft:
\n“cease” had the soft “C”;
\n“crease” the hard “C”.<\/p>\n
Then there was the confusion with “S”:
\nwas it “defense” or “defence”?<\/p>\n
and then C’s involvement with the whole
\n“I” before “E” except after “C” thing \u2014
\nI felt betrayed.<\/p>\n
“C” was a pretty slippery customer;
\nit taught me a lesson:
\ncats are all soft and purry and furry
\nbut they also have flaws:
\nwatch out for their teeth:
