{"id":508,"date":"2007-03-10T20:21:43","date_gmt":"2007-03-11T01:21:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2007\/03\/10\/morning-reading\/"},"modified":"2007-03-21T06:17:56","modified_gmt":"2007-03-21T11:17:56","slug":"morning-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2007\/03\/10\/morning-reading\/","title":{"rendered":"morning reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Usually during the toast and jam<br \/>\nsection of breakfast, after the entr\u00e9 \u2014<br \/>\nporridge or whole grain cereal \u2014<br \/>\nwe discover who died.<\/p>\n<p>I am reading the comics,<br \/>\nsometimes the editorials<br \/>\nand letters to the editor \u2014<br \/>\noften directly from heaven<br \/>\nit would seem \u2014<br \/>\noffering a complete diet of<br \/>\nall forms of humour,<br \/>\nwhich I find a necessary<br \/>\naspect of bundling up<br \/>\nmy carcass for such adventures<br \/>\nas the day may bring.<\/p>\n<p>But usually, my attention is drawn<br \/>\nfrom across the table<br \/>\nto the thinning ranks<br \/>\nof the pre-boomer<br \/>\n(pre-WW2) generation,<br \/>\nwhich is dropping like<br \/>\nflies into a very attractive<br \/>\nmanure pile.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, look: old sandy-arse died;<br \/>\nI thought he&#8217;d shuffled off<br \/>\nten, fifteen years ago.<\/p>\n<p>There is a difference<br \/>\nI think<br \/>\nbetween dying<br \/>\nand being physically dead.<br \/>\nI am hoping to live long<br \/>\nbefore and after<br \/>\nmy physical death.<br \/>\nAt least, that&#8217;s what<br \/>\nthose who weep and wail<br \/>\nat funerals tell me,<br \/>\nand I am religious<br \/>\nin that belief.<\/p>\n<p>The religious folk<br \/>\nwho are self-proclaimed experts<br \/>\non how wonderful death is<br \/>\nseem to be very weepy<br \/>\nwhen it actually happens.<br \/>\nIs it jealousy or perhaps<br \/>\nuncertainty that so<br \/>\ninflames their eyes?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s our morning reading, anywho.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Usually during the toast and jam section of breakfast, after the entr\u00e9 \u2014 porridge or whole grain cereal \u2014 we discover who died.
