{"id":5,"date":"2006-03-18T23:29:42","date_gmt":"2006-03-19T04:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/?p=5"},"modified":"2007-04-16T12:11:42","modified_gmt":"2007-04-16T17:11:42","slug":"you%e2%80%99re-soaking-in-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2006\/03\/18\/you%e2%80%99re-soaking-in-it\/","title":{"rendered":"You\u2019re soaking in it!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Across the broad rain-scrubbed piazza,<br \/>\nA wet warren of windows suggested<br \/>\nThat section of viaduct had been carved into homes<br \/>\nA thousand, two thousand years of bricks<br \/>\nLanded on my head right then.<br \/>\nNot far away, almost six hundred years ago,<br \/>\nBrunelleschi worked with maths and mirrors to discover<br \/>\nPerspective, and it\u2019s what I want:<br \/>\nNot maths, but mirrors that will give me<br \/>\nPerspective: a hint, a clue, a Rosetta Stone<br \/>\nTranslatable is what I want, need, ask.<\/p>\n<p>I need a mirror, or a splash of mirrors to open this universe.<\/p>\n<p>In Versailles, Louis had mirrors<br \/>\nWhen a hand mirror could cost<br \/>\nA lifetime of wages, and most of his subjects<br \/>\nUsed puddles for reflections, he had mirrors<br \/>\nThe size of grand portraiture<br \/>\nAnd nobody said no, you cannot<br \/>\nCannot use all those lifetimes of labour<br \/>\nJust to enjoy your own narcissism.<br \/>\nYet when I who am used to mirrors<br \/>\nTurned the corner into that grand windowed<br \/>\nHall with all its windows and mirrors<br \/>\nIt crashed through whatever I was!<\/p>\n<p>I know my life is all around me as is yours;<br \/>\nStrewn like rubble from the transformations<br \/>\nEnacted by some ancient mason trying to<br \/>\nMake a future out of his past: trying to<br \/>\nHue our fenestration out of his past: allowing me<br \/>\nTo look at a puddle, see the moment of reflection<br \/>\nCreate my window, my mirror to the answer that<br \/>\nI\u2019m soaking in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Across the broad rain-scrubbed piazza, A wet warren of windows suggested That section of viaduct had been carved into homes A thousand, two thousand years of bricks Landed on my head right then.
