The pickets are walking the line today
\nacross the street and down the way:
\nthey’re paramedics and they drive
\nlike hell to keep you and me alive.<\/p>\n
They save our lives,\u00a0 but the city dreams
\nof saving money, on the backs, it seems
\nand at the expense of those same paramedics
\ndoesn’t that seem kind of dense and pathetic?<\/p>\n
I know what it’s like to go on strike
\nit’s like giving up on the rest of life;
\nit’s fear and it’s totally undermining
\nall of your hopes with what seems like whining.<\/p>\n
I hated the whole damned experience
\nbut I’d do it and stay there a year and then
\nI’d stay there another because some things
\nare worth fighting for, like hope with wings.<\/p>\n
So I look at those highly trained people and say
\nthey are not in the snow on a whim today,
\nand tomorrow and (I hope not!) next September;
