{"id":470,"date":"2007-02-07T09:01:37","date_gmt":"2007-02-07T14:01:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2007\/02\/07\/visitor\/"},"modified":"2007-02-09T00:30:48","modified_gmt":"2007-02-09T05:30:48","slug":"visitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2007\/02\/07\/visitor\/","title":{"rendered":"Visitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It arrived just in time for lunch \u2014<br \/>\nsliced cold turkey on whole wheat<br \/>\nwith Dijon mustard, cheddar cheese,<br \/>\nolives, pickled pearl onions, capers<br \/>\nand tea \u2014 an immense white vehicle<br \/>\nthat descended sillently from the blue sky.<\/p>\n<p>I would have asked them in, but they<br \/>\ndid not seem interested in food; rather<br \/>\nthey spent most of the lunch period<br \/>\nsetting up some device in my front yard.<br \/>\nIt turned out to be a universal translator<br \/>\nthey poked it through the window and<br \/>\nasked me thousands of questionsthat<br \/>\nI refused to answer, as they were<br \/>\nvery personal, and I have a right to some<br \/>\nprivacy \u2014 what they were I won&#8217;t say.<\/p>\n<p>They left just before supper which I prepared<br \/>\nduring the most intense period of questioning,<br \/>\nwhen they were asking about disease and war<br \/>\nand many unpleasant things I refuse to consider.<br \/>\nI was quite pleased when they got into their ship<br \/>\nand silently returned straight up.
