\nThat I kneaded then rolled out of
\nFlour and shortning,
\nIce cold water and salt \u2014
\nAnd I peeled those
\nRosey fuzzy peaches
\nWith a small sharp paring knife \u2014
\nThey were rich pinky orange inside:
\nSoft, dripping luscious, freestone:
\nSpicey sweet:
\nDrip-along-your-forearms-to-your-elbows juicy:
\nTempt you to sink teeth into
\nUntil your chin is dripping \u2014
\nCut the oblong fruit into halves
\nArranged in the bottom of the shell,
\nWhich I had rolled out round, lifted in deftly
\nAnd shaped into the pie pan:
\nGleaming juicy peach halves:
\nPour on sour cream
\nBrown sugar . . .
\nRoll out another round of dough,
\nCut into strips laid spaced and parallel
\nFold back alternate strips from the centre,
\nLay a strip over, perpendicular
\nThen replace and fold back the alternates
\nUntil, presto: a woven top crust.<\/a><\/p>\n
