[anui: Inuit for packed snow]<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

there came a time
\nwhen peeing outside the tent<\/p>\n

\u2014 out of sight of the giggling young
\nInuit women who would play
\nspy-on-the-white-man
\nwith anyone emerging
\nfrom the poker game
\nand freeing his dink
\nfrom our bulky winter gear
\nin the privacy of
\naround the corner of the tent,
\nso she could see what
\nall the mystery was about \u2014<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

the time came when
\nthat was not enough:
\nwe had to end the constipation
\nand face number two
\nor the consequences of
\nMurphy’s ninetieth law:
\nif you eat, you crap.
\nThe only place
\nthey would let us crap
\nwas an igloo
\nconstructed at the edge
\nof camp by the Inuit
\nas an elaborate joke, I am sure.<\/p>\n

An igloo is made of packed snow
\nchunks carved out of the aniu,
\ncurved quickly and laid in a spiral
\nuntil it forms a well-insulated
\nsheltered small dome.
\nEntrance is achieved by means
\nof crawling through a short tunnel
\nwith a right-angled wall
\nyou must first navigate
\nbefore accessing the tunnel.<\/p>\n

It is here you realize two things:
\nlight travels through snow
\nand refridgeration does not
\nnecessarily kill
\nthe smell of poop.
\nConsider also that
\nwhen you crawl
\ninto this glowing haven of poo
\nyou enter the inner sanctum
\nface-first face-down
\nbefore you turn and squat
\nthen unbuckle unzip
\nand present bum
\nto the cold
\non a very slippery slope.
\nIn retrospect
\nthis was my introduction
