Under this cloud that is November
\nthis haunting ever-present mist
\nthat cloaks everything in autumn
\nwe brood, waiting for snow.<\/p>\n
Dark blue berries on the naked ivy fingers
\nthat tremble outside our damp brick walls
\nlinger as meagre stipends for the squirrels
\nthat scavenge erratically among them.<\/p>\n
Wet winds winnow greying grasses combing
\ntheir leafy dander into corners shared with
\nragged notes, grocery lists, labels, invoices
\nblown out of lives and into mulching decay.<\/p>\n
This is all hard harbinger
\nof the crystal doom
\ngathering in the sky
