These gold September skies
\nand sun-drenched days mislead.
\nAutumn\u2019s trees have surrendered:
\nochre leaves instead of red
\nserve defeated vinegar
\ninstead of claret wine.
\nLook: erstwhile scarlet sumac
\ndithers in frowsy sepia;
\nmaples rust by the roadside;
\ndesiccated wisps drift down,
\ncrush underfoot.
\nIn the end, October will disappear
\nunder November\u2019s slurried slush.<\/p>\n

And then, overnight
\na blush of orange\u2013
