On the river, in cottage country,
\nRemote as we are from city comforts
\nOf traffic, unwanted music
\nAnd other complaints
\nThat are amazingly enough
\nOnly a half hour away by boat
\nand vehicular highway means,
\nWhen it rains like this,
\nBy unanimous vote we declare
\nJug Day
\nBy which we decree a state
\nOf helpless indolence
\nOn which laundry sits in heaps,
\nDishes remain on countertops,
\nGrass is uncut, boats are still, at docks,
\nAnd cards and board games
\nAccompanied by booze and late leftovers
\nAre the order of the day.
\nI do admit to reading on such occasions
\nYour Honour,
\nBut for leisure only.
\nAt first there are many glances
\nOut of windows, but eventually
\nEven these cease except in the mystical sense
\nAs we all focus on losing ourselves
\nFor the day. Ah, bliss! We become kids,
