At solstice now we face the heart of winter,
\neven though cold days are growing long,
\nwe cannot help but stoke the fires and shiver
\nand know it will be months before birds’ song.<\/p>\n
The light of day grows long and that’s a comfort:
\nit means the sun must surely bring the summer,
\nand with it come bare feet, black flies and sunburn,
\nthat make me think that warmth can be a bummer.<\/p>\n
Cold comfort to hate summer in the cold;
\nand gnash my teeth and think of all that’s wrong
\nwith skimpy clothes and sunny skin and gold,
\nand shivering in the rain to sing a song.<\/p>\n
So what the heck if we live in a land of ice:
