The channel rolls with long dark whitecapped waves
\nUpstream. Before me, in the lee, pale blue and
\nSoft mageneta ripplescome, and early light
\nTouches tops of clouds in pink and payne’s grey.<\/p>\n
An osprey circles overhead as a small red-
\nRoofed runabout struggles bouncing to cross the
\nRolling surf and slows at last to wallow
\nDiagonally to the other side until, once out of
\nThe channel’s roll, it picks up speed and steadies
\nOn its course again.<\/p>\n
This wind will bring rain
\nFrom the south up the coast, as hurricanes begin
\nDown there again, and we catch edges and fall rains.<\/p>\n
Sun strikes the far shore and islands
\nAnd the tops of our trees , invading the
\nPreviously solemn morning with fresh life
\nAnd colour, setting all in stark relief.<\/p>\n
