{"id":2861,"date":"2010-01-04T19:39:14","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T00:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/?p=2861"},"modified":"2010-01-05T21:22:59","modified_gmt":"2010-01-06T02:22:59","slug":"remote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2010\/01\/04\/remote\/","title":{"rendered":"Remote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am clad in winter now, packed away by snow and cold and dark;<br \/>\nI become a flippered seal: thick layers of clothing insulate me like layers of blubber;<br \/>\nI see, hear so little too much: muffling snow tricks reflections of light and sound;<br \/>\ndriving becomes absurd: slush and ice and snow in all those varieties<br \/>\ndefeat tire treads until sideways and merry-go-round are the new forward.<br \/>\nAt night, house lamps and streetlights varnish snow, casting their dim calls<br \/>\nup to dark low hanging clouds, making<!--more--> outdoors a dim, indeterminate<br \/>\nabysmal room in which this night walker waddles like child in a snowsuit<br \/>\nfearful of being struck by a rogue vehicle loosely under the semi-control<br \/>\nof a citizen whose encumbrances rival my own: I am the equivalent of<br \/>\na severely arthritic, slightly demented, aged invalid. Since those adjectives<br \/>\ndescribe me fairly accurately indoors and in summer, perhaps I should be<br \/>\ngrateful to this season that levels the playing field for me.
