We sang for a couple of hours, giving me a chance to observe donors from the other side of the kettle.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The tunes were mainly Christmas-y,<br \/>\nand a steady flow of people contributed<br \/>\nloose change, loonies, toonies, fives,<br \/>\ntens and even twenty-dollar bills.<br \/>\nSome even stopped to chat quite earnestly<br \/>\nwith the seven-year-old daughter of our<br \/>\nLead singer, who was sitting with the kettle,<br \/>\nhanding out thank you cards.<!--more--> Having passed<br \/>\nthis kettle and others many times, and having<br \/>\ncontributed my fair share almost every time,<br \/>\nI started thinking about the people this collection<br \/>\nis for. I started thinking that maybe some<br \/>\nof them had passed us, although I wonder if<br \/>\nthey could afford to shop at that store. I sensed<br \/>\nthat some of the people who passed without<br \/>\ndropping coin wished they could: they were both<br \/>\nglad we were collecting and embarrassed.<br \/>\nI shared the glad but the other embarrassed me:<br \/>\nso much for so few; so many with so little.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our barbershop quartet, Acapellics Anonymous, volunteered to sing at the Salvation Army kettle in a grocery store today.
