The groceries are in their places:
\nRefrigerator, pantry jammed
\nWith cans, bottles, packages, cartons of \u2014
\nBut it wasn’t the shopping
\nSo much as getting there:
\nWe stopped in at the house to
\nCheck mail and retrieve an extra
\nPropane tank from the garage:
\nThe door jammed, and for two
\nHours of respooling, lifting,
\nFiguring, co-operating, solving,
\nExerting beyond limits, we detoured
\nThrough hope to desperation
\nAnd back again until suddenly
\nSuccess. The rest was just
\nThe usual acquisition of food
\nAnd fuel, messages and waiting.
\nOf it all, the part that made me
\nHappiest was the two of us working
\nTogether like a fine machine.
