The river, strafed causally by intense sunlight, overhung
\nby a vivid canopy of blue, is insistent patches
\nof shimmering ripples interspersed with vast areas
\nof lovely reflective almost contemplative
\nstillness upon which islands not only seem
\nto float, but to drift above, above their own
\nsoft reflections. Birds, finished their dawnish
\ncacophonic warmup, are content to sketch
\ncalls around the firmament sporadicly.
\nLeaves of trees occasionally shimmer and
\nthen rest in the cool morning air, content to
\nsoak in the hot sun in upper branches and
\nwait for the later warmer beams to reach
\ninto the lower, waiting, dew-cooled masses.
\nI wonder if the butterflies have departed,
