\nDeaf to the sirens luring call across the water.
\nFrom my secure perch, I extend one hand
\nTo block the setting sun.
\nLooking sunward at the flashing lights
\nAvoiding looking directly at
\nThe true light. My hand is a moon.
\nEclipsing the great red disk
\nOf Apollo’s chariot
\nAnd below, the red lights
\nSpeed and flash
\nPractising.<\/p>\n
Practising for the day their cry willl be
\nTheir flashing lights will declare
\nThe true light of life or death.<\/p>\n
The sun sets. Violet and gold clouds remain,
\nThe sirens call.
