They had been prescribed by the<br \/>\ndoctor at the sleep clinic. I had taken them for<br \/>\ntwo and a half years. My family doctor was upset:<br \/>\n<em>They are addictive<\/em>, he said,<em> and for people in<br \/>\nyour age group, they affect your mental abilities,<br \/>\nmaking you kind of stupid.<\/em> I couldn&#8217;t argue with that.<br \/>\nHe prescribed something else to help me sleep.<br \/>\nI shall not start taking it until I start feeling the texture<br \/>\nof the concrete under the carpet when I swivel<br \/>\nmy office chair.
