{"id":2249,"date":"2009-10-13T23:57:46","date_gmt":"2009-10-14T03:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/?p=2249"},"modified":"2009-10-15T00:03:56","modified_gmt":"2009-10-15T04:03:56","slug":"at-the-rehearsal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2009\/10\/13\/at-the-rehearsal\/","title":{"rendered":"at the rehearsal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The actors are tiny specks<br \/>\nin the huge volume of space<br \/>\nthat is the waiting theatre.<br \/>\nThe setting is imaginary,<br \/>\nrepresented by a few chairs<br \/>\nand strips of masking tape.<br \/>\nThe director and the others<!--more--><br \/>\nare there to evoke the illusion<br \/>\nthat they hope will<br \/>\nenthrall the audience<br \/>\nfor a couple of hours.<\/p>\n<p>They are gathered<br \/>\nto interpret the words<br \/>\nwritten by a single person<br \/>\nwho imagined the whole thing.<br \/>\nTo lift these words<br \/>\nfrom the page so that<br \/>\nthey can fill this huge space<br \/>\nand inspire the people<br \/>\nwho will sit there and<br \/>\nsuspend disbelief together<br \/>\nwould be akin to inventing<br \/>\nthe wheel, fire and atomic energy<br \/>\non the same day<br \/>\nwere it not for the layers<br \/>\nof experience and creativity<br \/>\nand history and art<br \/>\nand courage and determination<br \/>\nthat all these people possess.<\/p>\n<p>And so the great imagining begins<br \/>\nand the space is filled<br \/>\nwith the souls of real ideas<br \/>\nthat become living beings<br \/>\nto inhabit the synapses<br \/>\nof the audience and the world<br \/>\nthey walk out to as they leave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I attended a rehearsal tonight.
