The bush next door
\nhas ignited again:
\nthe leaves at the top
\nturned red a week ago,
\nand again the idea caught on
\nand has spread downward
\na good storey and a half,
\nuntil only the bottom leaves
\nare green.<\/p>\n
I had thought to express
\nmy concern to my neighbour;
\nafter all, a flaming bush
\nis no minor matter:
\nmillennia ago
\nit shook the world
\ninto belief.<\/p>\n
See it in his back yard
\nalmost swallowing
\nthe wall of my garage.
\nIt seems to be speaking
\nto me, but although I don’t
\nunderstand the words,
\nI get the message:
\nit’s going to get cold
\nbefore it gets warm,
\nand that could mean
\nanything.<\/p>\n
Somebody said
\n“If you speak to God,
\nit is called prayer;
\nif God speaks to you,
\nit is called schizophrenia.”<\/p>\n
All I’m saying is
\nthat’s one mighty
\nred bush out there,
\nand if I read it right,
\nor heard it right,
\nsomebody should
