\nas if I should rush to the door
\nanswer the door

It’s like the phone:
\nits ring is an imperative;
\nbut is it the ring
\nor the person causing the ring
\nwho demands attention?<\/p>\n
My little rebellion
\nis to ignore —
\nI tell myself that
\nas the ringing, the knocking
\ncontinues.<\/p>\n
Will the door bend?
\nWill time bend
\nand let me skip all this?
\nWhat is on the other side?
\nA smile? A fist? A gun?
\nA letter? The end of days?<\/p>\n
